Job Description	______________________________________________________________________ Job Title: CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER Organization: SHOP FOR CHANGE FAIR TRADE ______________________________________________________________________ Background: Shop for Change Fair Trade is a dynamic, not-for-profit company that seeks to harness the power of markets to create opportunities for poor farmers and handicraft artisans across India. It was born out of the multi-stakeholder dialogue that began in 2006. Looking for new ways to improve livelihoods of poor farmers and artisans, producer organisations, NGOs, business leaders, and academicians came together to bolster the fair trade market and movement in India. This process ultimately culminated in the establishment of Shop for Change Fair Trade as a section 25 company by International Resources for Fairer Trade (India) and Traidcraft (UK ), with financial support from European Union and Dutch foundations ICCO and Hivos. By promoting the social standards and product labels to consumers as a guarantee of a fair deal for agricultural and handicrafts producers, Shop for Change adds value to products, creating benefit for producers, as well as companies looking to differentiate themselves. Shop for Change's work focuses on three areas. • First, it has created a fair trade standards and certification system that meets the unique challenges faced by Indian farmers and artisans, with particular interest in helping those who have not been able to access international fair trade markets find a value-added market within India. • Second, it is working with allies to create a network of informed consumers who will buy Shop for Change labelled products and spread the fair trade message in their communities. • Finally, it is helping to build producer capacity to meet its standards and consistently market quality products to India’s fair trade buyers. Shop for Change seeks bright, motivated, entrepreneurial individuals who share their belief that markets can work for the poor. Job responsibilities • Legal, Tax and Financial Management: Manage annual budget, maintain accounting systems. and deal with third party on corporate tax regulations and legal requirements. • HR - Establish and maintain HR policies and procedures .Manage recruitment and staff issues. • Support CEO on strategic planning and decision making, sales and customer relationships as needed. • Support CEO on media outreach, interviews, and public speaking, especially in Hindi • Operations: Manage general office administration and procurement. Oversee implementation of fair trade certification system. Qualifications and Essentials: The ideal candidate should match the following profile: Education: Post Graduate Degree in Management preferred Languages: Fluent in English and Hindi Nationality: Indian Location: Mumbai Essentials: • Minimum 5 – 8 years of Professional experience. • The incumbent could be a business/project head with experience in managing atleast one complete Project lifecycle. • Should have been independantly responsible for a team and bottomline as part of the project lifecycle • Strong interpersonal and networking skills. For e.g Client management experience would be desirable. • Self motivated, hand on with an openness to perform variety of tasks at any level required to achieve necessary results • Excellent English and Hindi writing, proofreading, and speaking skills (other Indian languages a plus) • Competence working with Microsoft Office, internet communication, and database software • Ability to work within timelines, set and achieve short and long term goals • Willingness to travel for up to two weeks at a time. Preferable: • Experience of working with Europeans or Americans • Experience in textile, food and beverage, or other consumer products industry.
